Summer is here!

This morning, the weather bureau announced that summer is officially here.

They don’t need to tell us that – the heat is obvious enough for anybody to announce that SUMMER is here. Oh well, back to casual dress work days. Office fashion will be a cross between resort wear and weekend dress. So that means all my black clothes will be shoved behind the closet at the moment until the rainy days come.

A typical tropical wardrobe cannot be complete without the flip-flops or tongs. You ain’t a girly-girl if you don’t have a collection of flip-flops and sandals that complement your summer wardrobe. Some of the major faves are the imported Havaianas, Crocs and Dupe collections and the local Banana Peel. Gals and guys alike loved the buttery-soft feel and the varied colors and design to choose from.

Time to visit the malls again!

Taoist Temple

Before Ferdinand Magellan first set his foot on the shores of Cebu more than 400 years ago, the Chinese and Arabs were already trading partners of the locals. And the present Cebuanos social and cultural heritage is actually a fusion of Filipino-Chinese-Spanish influences. And Cebu is proud of its Chinese heritage and even considered our small city a huge Chinatown.

Perhaps, one of the most visible and famous Chinese presence is the TAOIST TEMPLE located near our place. I just feel guilty not showing this place in this blog soon enough as its just 3 minutes away from our house. I guess I took this landmark for granted for this is an everyday sighting for me. Oh, well! Crazy me... that’s why I titled my blog Everyday Cebu! Ok enough, I know, I am rambling.

Devotees climb the 99 steps of the temple to light joss sticks and pray for good fortune. But what is breathtaking is the view of Cebu City from here during sunrise and sunsets. It is located at one of the highest elevation of a residential area, Beverly Hills (Yes, we have that here :P).

If you happen to be around South East Asia, please add Cebu to your itinerary. For Hotel Reservations in Cebu, just visit Hotel Travel for best deals.

Fuenta Osmeña

5pm @ Fuenta Osmeña Park.

Fuente Osmeña is a circular park in the middle of uptown Cebu City. It is a famous landmark where a monument-fountain honoring the late President Sergio Osmeña, Sr. stands in the center of the park.

Bluer than blue

I can’t help but be amazed how blue the sky and ocean here in our little tropical paradise! Oh, the bridge is Marcelo Fernan.

Hat Lady

It was only January, the weather should be nippy but the heat was scorching and yet despite that it didn’t take away the spirit of revelry. Some henna tattoo, a whistle and a colorful hat made it more fun and exciting!

Last year, same festival, I took this photo of a man with many hatsand this year, I can't resist but take a photo similar to it.

Sinulog Festival – January 21, 2007.

almost summer

Summer is not officially here but the humidity reminded us to ready ourselves of hell-hot days ahead. Just when I am starting to enjoy the cold weather at the end of January, I blinked and suddenly found myself looking for vacation packages to Europe just to escape the heat. The cool weather is oh so brief, I didn’t have the time to enjoy it much.

Now, I’m in a panic mood to stock my bathroom drawers with sun blocks of all kinds and SPFs. The stillness of the weather nowadays reminds me of a brewing storm. A very hot tropical storm this coming summer.

Round and round

According to the ancient symbolism, the circle is the universal symbol of unity and perceived as the female power or feminine spirit/force, the Mother Earth.

It also means the cycle of life, thus death and rebirth.

Interesting.... a signal from cosmos must have triggered my inner mind to START this blog again. And my first photo of the year is about circles.

Coincidentally, it’s almost the start Chinese New Year (Feb 18) – the Year of the Pig. According to Feng Shui experts, it’s the year of the WOMAN.

I wonder – this must be a lucky year for me!

I found this piece on my way to the supermarket. It’s a local lifestyle furniture shop – the glass door with a frosted backdrop and from the inside is a curtain of the pearly capiz shells. It's elegant and very well defined Cebu’s fine craftsmanship.
